Volunteers

Who are we.

We are a small group of individuals with a very particular set of skills – in scouting. By the toll of a thousand nights spent in bunkhouses, or on campsites swept clean by wind or the owner’s lack of empathy. We have finely honed expectations in terms of accommodation for youth groups.

A Group Scout Leader and Scout Leader, organiser of international trips, with 30+ year’s leadership experience, and a scout back in the day.

A Scout Leader, Explorer Scout Leader, organiser of Scottish-based expeditions, ex-youth worker and fundraiser, and charity chairperson with 30+ years of experience – also a scout back in the day.

An Assistant Scout Leader, hard landscaper, tree surgeon, and mountain biker, also a scout back in the day, (although not quite as far back.)

And an Assistant Cub Leader, ex- British Army infantry soldier, with experience in management, business & training consultancy, and Project Manager for a youth mental health charity.

And a group of around one dozen exceedingly keen and clever young people.

How we work with each other.

It’s not like scouts, we’re all volunteers, so our structure is flat. There aren’t ‘leaders’ and ‘youth members’ – we’re people working together.

We’ve become slightly frustrated with how prescriptive Scouts continues to become. We’d like to work with young people in a way that suits them, not in a way that suits a distant corporate body.

We’d also like to stand on our own record of safety, instead of a well-meaning but ill-considered bureaucracy.
